That's SEW Neat Longarm Quilting.

Providing computerized longarm quilting in a smoke free home in St Thomas, Ontario.

Welcome to That's SEW Neat Longarm Quilting!

My name is Stephanie Wilms (and my middle initial is E, so my initials are SEW!) and I am the owner/quilter of That's SEW Neat Longarm Quilting.

I love to create things and more specifically, love working with a computerized machine to add beautiful stitching to quilts.  After working as an RN for 30 years, I decided it was time to switch gears and focus on quilting.

Using a computerized system has many advantages - I have over 500 (and counting!) designs for all over design quilting (also known as edge to edge) and I can change the density/size of the design to fit your quilt top perfectly.  No need to stand behind a machine and try to follow a paper pantograph.  You get precise results and consistent stitching every time.

As a quilter myself, I understand the time and money involved in quilting.  I treat every quilt as if it were my own.

I am flexible for drop off and pick up of your quilts.  I take Sundays off.  Please reach out via text / phone / email to arrange for drop off of your quilt, or if you have any questions.

I love watching my machine work and I hope you do as well.

Pricing

I offer all over quilting (also known as edge-to-edge) at 2.5 cents per square inch.  For example, a quilt that measures 80 x 100 is 8000 square inches and would be $200.00 (80 x 100 x 0.025).  I do not charge HST.  My minimum charge is $45.00.

Batting

I provide batting or you are welcome to provide your own.
If you provide your own batting, please add 4" to each measurement for the batting requirement.  (For example, a quilt that is 80 x 100 would require batting that is at least 84 x 104).
All prices include HST.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question that isn't answered here please reach out.

How much backing / batting do I need to provide?

For backing, please add 4" to each side of the quilt.  Picture having a 4" picture frame around your quilt top.  For example, a quilt that is 60" x 84" will need backing that is at least 68" x 92".  You do not need to trim it exactly to 68" x 92" - it's a minimum.

For batting, please add 2" to all four sides.  For a quilt that is 60" x 84", please provide 64" x 88" as a minimum.  I also carry batting and will cut exactly what you need.

Can I provide prepackaged batting?

Yes you can.  If it is prepackaged batting, I would kindly ask that you open it first and lay it out on a large surface (bed, floor) so it can relax.  Packaged batting that is rolled and packaged can get distorted and wrinkled.

Do I need to use wideback fabric or can I piece the backing together?

You can do either.  If you piece the backing, please use a ½” seam allowance and press the seam open.  Ideally the seam will run horizontally on your quilt.

Do you provide binding as a service?

Binding is not a service I provide.

What type of payment do you accept?

I accept either cash or e-transfer.  You do not need to provide a deposit when you bring me your quilt.  Payment is required before you pick up your quilt after longarming.

Do you charge HST?

No, I am not required to charge/collect HST.

Do you offer custom quilting?

No.  I only offer all over designs (edge-to-edge)

Do you pick the design for the quilting or do I do that?  How about thread?

I have over 500 designs that I use for all over quilting.  When you drop off your quilt, I will ask you if you have a sense of what type of design you are after (for example, feathers, circles, butterflies, masculine, etc).  I am happy to show you a few ideas on my computer in my home office when you drop off your quilt(s), or I can send you a few ideas via text or email after I have had a chance to look at your quilt more closely.  Some customers also let me choose the design completely.   There is a gallery of pictures on this website (and I will add more gradually).  Each picture includes the name of the quilting design. I have more designs available than what is reflected on my website.

I provide the thread for the quilting.  I use 100% polyester thread that is durable.  I have several colours.  I tend to pick colours that blend into your quilt so your quilt is the focal point, not the stitching.  Feel free to request a colour (for example, "please match the teal on the top") and I will do my best to accommodate your request.

Do you offer any types of discounts?

I love referrals and offer a 10% discount for each referral received.  (You would receive 10% off the quilting service for your next quilt, even if it's a large king size quilt.)

I also offer 10% off quilting services for quilts done for charity.

What is the largest quilt you can longarm?

I can quilt up to 116" wide and as long as you like.

Testimonials

Here are a few testimonials from my clients.

Stephanie is Exceptional, the work detail on my quilts is extraordinary, so glad I’ve found her. Any changes or questions Stephanie is more than willing to assist to make the quilt even more beautiful

Beth M

Working with Stephanie was amazing from start to finish! I'm a first time quilter and she answered all my questions thoroughly and quickly. The long arm process was quick and very reasonably priced. Her home is clean and smoke-free. It took me two years to make my quilt top and I felt comfortable leaving it with her knowing she would treat it with care and respect. I made a king sized, so I know future project size will never be an issue.

Emily J

Glad I found Stephanie to quilt my very first quilt. She was a wealth of information for this newbie. She has invested in a very professional long arm system to deliver exceptional results.
